Guest speaker Carolyn Macartney

Carolyn Macartney.Cinematography: Serving the Story Within the Documentary Genre. Thursday, November 1, at 6:30 p.m. in RTFP 184.

A look at how cinematography, both aesthetically and technically, informs and is informed by a project's theme. Macartney will examine and discuss documentary as well as documentary/narrative hybrid films, including her in-progress feature film, Wanda the Wonderful.

A cinematographer, director and SMU professor, Macartney works in hybrids of narrative, experimental and documentary modes. She has had screenings at the New York Underground Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Houston Worldfest and the Lausanne Underground Film Festivals. She has served as Director of Photography for feature-length narratives as well as for Showtime, VH1, MTV and PBS. Her cinematography work has also screened at SXSW, MoMA New York, Rotterdam and London Film Festivals and the Margaret Meade International Film Festival.
