This season, the Media Arts Festival is proud to collaborate with Thin Line Fest to bring two free documentary screenings. The first, “The Long Quiet” directed by Lucy D’Cruz will be screened Thursday, April 24th at 7 PM. The film will follow up with a panel discussion featuring the director and main focus of the documentary, Hugh MacDermott. The second film, “Third Act” directed by Takashi Nakamura premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2025 and will be screened Friday, April 25th at 6 PM.
The Media Arts Festival will kick off opening night with an industry panel discussion featuring local film festival organizers. Representatives from Denton Black Film Festival & Thin Line Fest will all be in attendance to detail the importance of entering films into festivals and how they can help students take the next step in their filmmaking journey. The panel will be on April 25th at 6 PM in UNT’s RTFP building. Learn more about the presenters here!

Student films will be played all day on Saturday, April 26 starting at 10 AM in UNT’s RTFP building. Films are separated by blocks and a more detailed schedule will be provided to attendees via programs and selected submitters via an email. Attendees are free to come & go in between blocks to take a tour of the Department of Media Arts, discover Denton, or to explore the University of North Texas.
Saturday, April 26th festival volunteers will be available to give attendees tours of the Media Arts Department. Tours will be from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Our volunteers are excited to showcase the department and all the facilities we have to offer students. The tours are about 30-45 minutes and will include stops at the edit lab, equipment room, television station, radio station, and studios.
The festival ends with an awards ceremony honoring all selected submitters, committee members, volunteers, and finalists and winners of each film block. A red carpet will be available throughout the festival and we encourage all attendees to wear semi-formal attire for the awards and red carpet. Semi-formal attire is not required but we’d love to honor selected members both on and off the carpet during the awards ceremony.
At this time, UNT is experiencing very heavy construction and traffic all around the RTFP building. We apologize for this inconvenience but free parking can be found alongside West Hickory Street just North of the RTFP building. Paid parking can be found closer to the building in the Highland Street Garage, Union Circle Garage, and in any parking lots designated as a “Premium Parking” lot. More information about paid parking and a parking map can be found on the UNT Transportation Website. https://transportation.unt.edu/parking-permits.html
The Media Arts Festival is proud to continue the tradition of having student volunteers organize and plan the festival. Volunteers consist of students from Media Arts organizations, Media Arts ambassadors, UNT’s North Texas Television, 88.1 KNTU, and undergraduate and graduate students. Our volunteers are excited to help attendees throughout the festival and are available to help answer any questions about the festival, campus life, or life in Denton.
