Sussy Ruiz is a media management instructor and has previously taught Media Ethics, and TV-Radio and Announcing at UNT. She has mmore than seven years of experience when it comes to teaching at higher education institutions. Before her role at UNT, she also taught Electronic News at UT Arlington.
Currently, Ruiz is The Weather Channel Espanol Vice President and Editor in Chief. She oversees the editorial operation of the network and leads the development and launch of the first U.S. Spanish language network dedicated to weather and climate news 24/7 for the Hispanic audience in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean. She's a 6-time Lone Star Emmy Award recipient, with 8 nominations, and has more than 20 years of experience in editorial content, strategic planning, communications, and analysis across multiple markets. Prior to joining The Weather Channel en Espaandntilde;ol, Ruiz worked both at the local and corporate levels of Univision and Telemundo. During her tenure at both networks, she wore many hats including, managing the editorial direction and logistics for the entire newsroom staff and working with marketing and sales to incorporate news as an active strategic component for revenue.
