Bio

Jason Balas earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Film Production from Ohio University in 2002. He has worked for the WB Network and has freelanced for Fox Corporate/NY and the AandE Networks. His productions have received several distinguished awards including First Place for Documentary from the National Federation of Press Women Competition in 2008, the Award of Excellence in the Faculty Mixed Video Category in the 2008 and 2009 Broadcast Education Association's Media Arts Festival. Balas has also had narrative work screened and awarded at several film festivals including The Revelation Film Festival in Perth, Australia, The Ohio Independent Film Festival and The New York International Independent Film Festival.

Prior to joining the faculty at North Texas, Balas taught media production at Sam Houston State University and the University of Oklahoma. At UNT's Department of Media Arts, he teaches a variety of courses including Cinematography, Narrative Producing, Film Production and courses in Screenwriting.
